I have attempted to correct a problem previously pointed out by Andromeda: that a 'break' tag was being exported in my RSS feed. If you have subscribed to this blog through your favorite RSS reader, you should unsubscribe and re-subscribe. (Note that the URL for the RSS feed has changed. But on the bright side, most RSS readers will now understand 'www.jonathanherzog.com' as the URL for the feed.)
Seeing as I'm stuck in a hotel room with nothing else I want to do, I thought I'd talk a little bit about how I made this site. Why? A few reasons. First, I know that at least one of my readers is mildly interested in Drupal (the software that powers this site). Secondly, I've put a lot of work into this site, and I'm proud of the result and want to brag. Lastly, I have this vague hope that some of my academic colleagues will wander by the site and be inspired to make one like it for themselves. So... How I Made This Site (short form): I stopped hand-coding HTML, thank god.
Well, now I know what happens when I go too long without posting: the spambots swarm in.
Readers may recall my kvetching about Drupal from a few posts ago. In particular, I was complaining that while Drupal (the software that powers this site) is powerful enough to do anything I could imagine doing with a site, it doesn't really come out-of-the-box ready to do anything in particular.
The spammers are getting smarter, and in a very interesting (and possibly scary) way.
The spammers are winning. Time to fall back and re-trench.
Okay, I've finished updating and re-organizing the site. The big changes are:
- You can now create accounts for yourselves.
- You will need to solve a CAPTCHA to either create an account or to post a comment anonymously.
- You can now 'watch' a post of mine, meaning that new comments on that post will be emailed to you. (And no, you don't need to create an account or log in to do this.)
Ah, the sweet, sweet taste of victory:

Yes, this blog is still alive. In fact, I just spent the past hour or so doing some major behind-the-scenes upgrading. (To the latest Drupal 6, not Drupal 7. The Drupal 7 update is for another day.) All changes should be invisible to you, so please let me know if you see anything odd or broken.
(Update: edited first sentence to include previously-missing words.)
